Martin O’Brien is founder and owner of Cascumpec Bay Oyster Company. After returning to the island from university, Martin’s career in oysters came about through chance and necessity. He first worked on his parent’s oyster farm and then eventually bought some gear to grow oysters of his own. Always looking for ways to improve and expand the operation, Martin partnered up with Matt Morgan in 2015.
A junior high school teacher, Matt found his way into oyster farming through family friends, the O’Briens. He lives in Cascumpec, so was close by to give the O’Briens a hand on their farm during summer vacation. Like many who get a taste of oyster farming, he became passionate and wanted to find a way to get more involved. He and Martin were able to partner up on the farm side of things and expand on Martin’s existing oyster farming operation.
